There is actually a difference between tourist and visit visas. Tourist visas are valid for one month max and are non-renewable and are taken thru hotels and travel agencies.
Visit visas are different and must be sponsored by someone you know in the UAE (i think relatives/family). They used to be renewable, but not anymore I guess.

I might be wrong then but as far as I know even Visit visa's could be renewed for a maximum of 30 days and then you have to change the visa type or leave.I am pretty sure they both have the same limitations for IDLs.
