Hey Guys,

What are the real comments of owners on the Nissan GTR 2010 or 2009 years?

Any common problems?
I heard the maintainance is expensive if done at Nissan, any idea on this?
what are the maintainance pricing on this car and from where?
Fuel consumption? Affordable ?

Great everyday car?

thanks guys.

Hi,

Opinions vary. But to me - it is the best car.
It is the fast 4 seater car in the world, beating majority of super cars.
A lot depends on how the car has been used by its' previous owners.
Let's assume that the engine and gearbox are in good condition. If you are planning to keep the car stock - you will have no issues with maintenance. Only regular service items + oil change. If you are planning to modify, to add more HP and have a more aggresive style of driving it is highly recommended to do some upgrades to the transmission. First thing you will have to do is to update the software, as the first GT-R models had a "raw" one until 2011. The transmission will start functioning in a very different way and the shifts will become very noticeably "softer". Updating the software can be done by using the ECU Tek or COBB Access Ports.

Another important thing is strengthening or replacing the flywheel bell housing. The bell is getting a lot of load and many times causes breakdowns, which later on causes gaps. Because of these gaps the shifts become very rough and noisy. It is much easier to replace it with new bell from 2012+ GT-R.

While changing transmission oil it is also recommended to change the oil pan with a stronger one (HKS, Greedy, boostlogic etc.) to strengthen the gearbox itself and have a better cooling. If the oil was not heated for more than 120 degrees it is recommended to change it every 25k km.

Regular oil change is not expensive and can be done in any proper garage. For other services Arabian Automobiles or Masaood is not good and very expensive. The important services should be done in specialized performance garages like atomic, gosha turbo tech (abu dhabi) etc.

Fuel consumption depends on your driving style. Mixed between city and highway would have an average of 16l / 100km.

THankyou for the view on that.
I currently own n use the evo 8 as a daily car, regular maintenance. Runs fine and is really dependable.

im not looking to Modify the GTR unless i turn into a millionaire overnight so that is out of the question. Im guessing the GTR is way way powerful on its own, and for everyday driving, its more and enough.

It seems by your review that it is another reliable car, to use everyday. My question was also:

1. Why do owners of these cars sell them so cheap, with extremely low kms around 50K on the clock? only for the 2009 models. Is there something wrong with these cars? or?

2. I could always look into changing the things you mentioned to re enforce safety, hopefully affordable.

3. Reviews online are just going all out on the pricing of the maintenance on the car, and is not recommended for daily use. I have no idea why if the car is kept STOCK. any idea why?

Thanks Rage.

Look forward to your answers.

Hi Sharb,

1. Considering that the car is 8 years old, 150k would be the perfect price for it. Please do let me know if you have any cheaper options as few friends of mine are looking for 2009-2010 models.

A lot of these GT-Rs are not being used as daily drive cars, but more of weekend cars for fun etc, hence the low mileage. Definitely the cars could also have some mechanical issues. That's why I highly recommend taking the car for full check up to a performance garage that knows how to deal with GT-Rs.

Another option, especially with the imported GT-Rs is that they were heavily modified and later brought to stock condition. When owners of such GT-Rs decide to sell them, they come to know that it is extremely difficult, very few people would want to take that risk. So they try to bring it to stock level and of course at lowest expenses possible. The mileage can also be tweaked as far as I know. I have personally seen few examples of such GT-Rs here in UAE.

2. Yes, it will definitely be much more affordable if done in advance, than if after breakdown. The breakdowns can cause problems in other segments of the car too. So it is recommended to do these updgrades right away.

3. Few options are here too. Once again, a lot depends on the owners and how they are driving their GT-Rs. They could be using the car the wrong way, like abusing the launch control, "drifting" (this transmission is very cranky and hates it), driving aggressively for too long, not letting the engine and transmission cool. It is ok if the car breaks down from such usage.

Another reason could be ignoring some of the problems like noisy and rough gear shifts. Many official nissan dealers, including the local ones, say that it is perfectly fine, when it actually is not. That was just one example of such ignored problems, which can cause huge impact on the car and your pocket. Like I said in my previous post, not only the local dealers are horrible at servicing GT-Rs, but they are very expensive too. The parts are being sold at sky high retail prices and labor charges are fantastic. For brake pads replacement they mention 1 hour labor cost of at least 300 AED, when in reality it is a 10-15 minutes job.

The major benefit of performance garages is that you are able to bring your owns parts. If you know the right places or the right people who deal in spare parts, you will be able to save thousands of dirhams here.

Therefore factors like servicing that is done late or done wrongly or done in the wrong place will always cause big expenses to the owners.

By they way I can arrange parts like front/rear headlamps, front/rear bumper, LH/RH doors, front/rear fenders, spoilers, hood, trunk, gear linkage, side mirrors, windshield glass, side glass, flywheel and many other for pre-restyle GT-Rs (2008-2010 inclusive) at very very cheap prices. Some of these parts are applicable to all GT-R models. All parts are genuine nissan in brand new, never used condition. Please feel free to message me here or in PM for details.

Appreciate your answers and views on this. guessing car has to be be checked well, and purchasing a vehicle in stock condition. it will be tough as not many are around there but worth a shot anyway.
do you have what insurance companies would charge to insure this kind of car? Im guessing they have a Kill button when GTR is entered into their systems.
