UAQ/RAK Registration Issues

Hey Guys,

Just wondering if someone could set the story straight about UAQ/RAK Registration. I am looking at purchasing a right hand drive mark2 and getting saudi garage to convert it to left hand drive. But I have rang RAK muroor and they said that they will not register new cars only pre registered cars. But as I have noticed in this forum someone has had there car registered 4 days ago. The main reason I want to buy a car from RHD market is because I cannot seem to find a single preformance car that is what they seller says it is. I.E. mark2 tourer V blahl blah.. then i get the car check out and its had engine swap from tourer S and running hear is all the same.

p.s. if anyone can help me with registration that would be high appreciated.

The part about 'not registering new cars' is correct.

Al Saudi Workshop does quality conversion and "guarantees" that the car's registration will be renewed. I have also heard about them registering newly converted un-registered cars themselves for a higher total cost. They demand around Dh2500 every year for renewing the registration if you choose to do it through them initially. Though, I'm not sure about this anymore. It used to happen years ago but can't say if they still do it now.

You can get this issue sorted out with Saudi workshop directly. They can help you more than myself.

Maybe it was a preregistered?

Registering new -old- cars, which were never registered before cannot be regged anymore afaik....

A performance car, ... a mark2 ?

this is right the new cars they will not register but the old cars like they have before register they will register

So Basically I have to buy a used car that has been hammered by someone. Instead of buying one that has been cared for by in japan and get a proper conversion done replacing steering components to ensure they are safe and in good condition.

Whats going to happen to all the RHD cars then at aweer ?

Like I said, I've only heard about Saudi Workshop registering RHD un-regd cars after converting them to LHD at an additional cost of *around* Dh2500 every year. I'm sorry I don't have any contact numbers, but if you could get to them directly, they can sort it out for you.

The cars at Aweer Complex were imported in bulk in the beginning when the rules were actually quite loose. If you see the overall trend, it has actually decreased after the publication of such no-reg policies. But still, there are few showrooms/workshops that help the customer in registering a newly LHD-converted un-regd car, but only at an additional cost.

If you don't mind that additional cost, what exactly is the problem then?

registration for uaq....the cars which r registered can be renewed...if left hand ...n if its right hand uaq number change it n go 4 renewal....no new registration 4 right to left hand drive cars....for rak u need wasta for right to left hand drive...

I'm still in doubt about that. Expats with UAQ/RAK residence visa can buy and register cars like everybody else, but not RHD/LHD converted ones. Only UAQ/RAK locals AND Nationals can get converted cars registered on their names.

as sam said its right but once it is registered u can transfer tour name orelse i think expats having that place visa can do it ...there rule not so strict...

hmm.. thats interesting!! so will these Saudi Workshop guys help an expat in getting the car registered in their name. Cos it wouldn't be wise at all to get it registered in someone else's name. Wat if that dude takes off with the car. The law would definitely be on his side. We wont be able to claim the car back!!

For instance, what would happen if you buy, say, a 2006 Honda Civic from someone AND you decide to have the same number plate of the car (to benefit from the remaining months of insurance etc.) in other words, keep the car registered on the previous owner's name, and the owner agrees to it? Does that mean the guy can still claim the car to be his and take off with it whenever he wants? Will the law be on his side? Would you not be able to claim the car back?

In this country, if any expat wants to own a jap import, face the fact that 99.9% you will NOT have the car on your name. If you can't accept that, just back off.

But you weren't rite about getting the registration part about the honda civic 2006. You will be transferring the registeration and the insurance to your name when you buy the car from the previous owner and you may continue with the same registration if the previous owner agrees to it and continue with the insurance if the insurance company also agrees. You have the option of getting a new insurance at the time of registering the vehicle in your name. This I know for a fact atleast in dubai, cos last thursday my friend got a second hand car registered onto his name and the people at tasjeel gave him the options. He couldn't get the insurance transferred cos the insurance company didnt agree.

Guyz Saudi Workshop in al aweer which i checked b4 2months is not a workin business house now...its over they closed down the business the place was all empty no cars no workers no stuff inside...mayb they changed there location...not sure but i can say that they earned alot of money since right hand drive cars were here n now its 2 tough to register car in dubai becoz of the new department Roads and Transport authority has come up....uaq rak cars u can keep if u knw a local guy who mite b ur friend or watever....renew register n make insurance on his name not a big deal as far as u trust him...even if u dont knw i guy u can drive the car jus prepare a transfer paper from the maroor(Mubaya)....
