Hi Guys,

As you may know, some Japanese car exporters are providing Left Hand Drive conversions for around $3500. The cars are converted in Japan so would enter Dubai as Left Hand Drive.

They offer the service for these:
Toyota LandCruiser Prado 1996-2004
Toyota LandCruiser 80 1994-1997
Toyota LandCruiser 100 1998-2005
Toyota Hiace 1994-2004
Toyota Rav-4 1996-2005
Toyota Corolla 2000-2006
Toyota Harrier 2003-2006
Toyota Vitz 2002-2005
Toyota Camry 2006-
Toyota Mark II 1996-2000
Toyota Mark X 2004-2006
Toyota Hilux Surf 1997-2002

Would these be able to be registered legally in Dubai? For example a 1999 JZX100 Mark II Tourer V twin turbo, no modifications, converted to LHD, would this pass the inspection ?

I have a brochure detailing the conversion. Please PM me with your email adddress if you wouldl ike me to send you it. Please feel free to voice your opinions!!!

I don't think it's possible
unless u change the VIN so that any customs around the world
will think it's ORIGINAL LHD , every car manufacturer publishes
chassis numbers ( with very detailed info ) around the world ,
& guess to whom ???? yep the customs
so original documents will reveal it's original RHD , & I think
it's not allowed here , ( not sure about the US or western europe
where if some conditions met then it's allowed !!!!! )
may be a way around would be , renaming the whole car as a couch-builder
or design house , like brabus cars which are original mercedes but
they are imported & registered as a different brand , even with
a shoe horned giant V12 in small sedans :!:

Actually, I'm going to guess it would work!

But clearly the only sure way to find out is have the Japanese car exporter fax you the export papers and actually take them into Tasjeel managers and get their answer.

My feeling is that conversion in UAE is not allowed (so importing as RHD and then converting to LHD), but that if the car leaves Japan as LHD and is imported as LHD, then it's fine.

Please check with the authorites to get an official answer, and please make sure you let us know!!!

+1 to Prossett.

This issue has been around for some years now. The only way to get the answer will be to speak with Tasjeel and see what they have to say about it. Make sure you show them the brochure and give them all the details before they give out an answer to you.

Agree with Prossett
I also heard from many that should the car enter UAE as LHD there wont be any problem registering in any Emirates.

Hi Guys,
I will definately check things out with Tasjeel. Here is the quotation I received from my contact. I know the FOB price is pricey but the cars are in great conditon.

Dear Zeeshan

Ive got a reply from the factory. They do have a dashboard for LHD. They will modify other parts for LHD use.

1JZ-GTE (280hp) model without any modifications seem to be not many. We might be able to find one via auctions.

As for your info, see attached pics. these are our current stocks.
White one is 1998 TOURER-V AT 60,522km
Dark green 1997 TOURER-V TRD-SPORTS AT 69,000km

Each car is about 1,100,000JPY (FOB YOKOHAMA) USD11,500

1999 model will be more expensive.

So the total price might be 1,100,000 JPY(base car price) + 350,000 JPY(conversion cost) + shipping charges = USD15,000 plus shipping

regards,
