Some interesting speculation on Autoblog today:

Combining GM and Chrysler would be a messy job, as many models on both sides of the fence compete directly with on another in the marketplace. If the merger does happen, someone may have to sit down and decide which models stay and which go. We decided to play arm chair auto executive quarterback and hold a Battle Royale.

We've pitted model against model in 12 segments in which GM and Chrysler compete directly. In this thought experiment, only one model in each segment will survive to see the New World Order. Get to clickin' below to find out which ones make it.

Interesting how you brought this up. Just recently Ontario announced GM and Chrysler will not have to pay GST - This is the only way the Govt can help rebound the losses of the auto industry......already GM closed a one of north america's biggest factories located here in toronto (durham region) which made 7000 ppl jobless....pretty sad if you ask me!!!

I say if there is a buy out it wont make much a of a difference..with the hole economy crunch going on I dont think anyone will be beneficial from the takeover....However, I would really like to see some cars disappear from both the GM and Chrysler line up ........

Truthfully, you just posted pics of cars that are almost identical. Aside from the Jeep/Hummer (I'd pick a Jeep SRT over any hummer any day)

You could have also added a Ford F150, Explorer, Mustang, and F40.

Same same. Thats one problem american auto makers have. No real presence anymore. When you buy a Toyota, you know its a toyota. A nissan is a nissan. They have their own personalities.

I love American cars, and my next car will either be a Camaro SS or a 370Z. Probably the camaro, just cause I love muscle cars. That said, I dont think American auto makers would be in the binds they are in if there were real clear differences in their cars.

And truthfully, lets take the 1st 2 pics... which pickup would I buy? A Toyota Tundra. And if I had the money for a ZR1 or viper... I'd buy a used Modena. MIght not be as fast... but its a frikkin 360.

Just my 2 cents.
