Police to come down heavily on vehicles with extra fittings
By a staff reporter

25 January 2006

DUBAI — The Dubai Police has intensified its campaign to check motorists who drive recklessly or change the specifications of their cars by fixing extra lights, exhausts or sirens.

Brigadier Engineer Said Al Zafeen has directed all traffic control sections and units to come down heavily on such motorists.

According to Al Zafeen, the department has all the right to arrest reckless drivers and transfer them to the judicial authorities. The courts would have the final authority to punish such reckless motorists. He pointed out that some errant drivers have caused accidents that have proved fatal to many.

All vehicles fitted with additional lights and sirens, similar to those found on emergency vehicles, are to be confiscated since the owners have deliberately violated the rules, he said. It was essential to obtain the department’s approval before the motorist equips his vehicle with any such additional fittings, he added.

Al Zafeen called upon the public to cooperate with Dubai Police by providing information about such vehicles and drivers on 999, 8004353 or 8004888.

In a recent incident, Dubai Police, following a call from a concerned citizen, seized two cars that were annoying visitors of Al Mamzar Beach Road. "A partnership between the public and the traffic police will help maintain the safety and security of road users, including the reckless drivers themselves,” Al Zafeen added

Funny that they particularly target Al Mamzar.. Good thing they never say anything about the 3- and 4-digit number plates from abu dhabi - Range rover sports that fly by at 180kmh..

Not stereotyping, but just..

And I apologize if I offend anyone.

There are new houses being built at Mamzar now. I guess it once came in the newspaper that the Sheikhs who passby Al Mamzar late at night were the ones to complain about all the mischief. It's not unusal to see 2 and 3-digits cars even at around 3:00am.
