No freakin' way. There's a very good reason why German rides are so cheap once they're out of warranty.
Wouldn't recoment it for a DD, they might seem good to you now - bigv6, rwd, etc.. but you'll regret it when theres even a small problem, have to run around like a b*tch to look for Parts.
Stick to the small japanese cars (yaris/tida, etc) if your really after fuel efficiency/ low maintainence... they may not be fast or look good, but hey you will be saving money and trouble.

This is what you need to do/check:
1) Does it have Full Service History, Agency or otherwise
2) Jap/US Import or GCC spec
3) Any problems with it? Have you driven it?
4) Do you know how much it'll cost for servicing and wear and tear parts such as boots/rubber bits/pipes? (Find out!)
5) Finally, price.

BMW's arent that bad, German cars are probably the best ever made. Get a history from dealer or get it inspected at a garage. Read about some garage giving bumper to bumper inspections on BMW's.
If everything is good, i dont see why anyone shouldn't buy it. They ride is awesome in BMW even if they are 10-12 years old.

German cars are not reliable here because people do not look after them.Sure there parts are expensive but are totally worth the price. IMHO Lexus are over-priced, they just don't match German luxury! My brother bought a used '01 S320 in '04 and it had some issues in the start but after spending a tad bit to get it sorted, its still drives great after all those years, 220ks and my 'high-spirited' track day inspired driving All you have to do is treat it with care and maintain it with the right people. You have to be willing to pay for the luxury though!

Personally I think Japanese cars here in general are very over priced. But I guess its because of the mind set of this thread. Most of UAE has the same opinion. Go other places around the world and you will see plenty of old bmw's living to very high kms
Lack of preventive maintenance, d*ck wad owners and general unreliability are the reasons they are risky to purchase.UAE NEWBIE wrote:Personally I think Japanese cars here in general are very over priced. Clean and well maintained ones do show up once in a while though.

I agree. Beamers and German cars (IMHO) require more preventive maintenance than common Japanese rides, but they're more rewarding to drive and better built. Usually, their service intervals are at longer gaps which almost boils down to the same cost.
If you're looking for a clean one, head over to the BMWUAEClub.
