Before you all completely hijack the poor Meet '07 thread, this is where we need all your input for our January meet. We don't know the timings, dates are not decided yet, but what we do know is... that we're going to Jebel Hafeet! (Al Ain) Throw in your suggestions, anything and everything, and we will ensure that we all have a good time! Prossett will be playing host for this meet :)

OK, that's a good idea to start with - let's all post some ideas first, and then we can choose those we like the most and the ones that fit the location best.

Since it's a 1.5 hour drive from Dubai, so practically a day trip, we could think of food, activities and places to drive in addition to the meet itself.

Post all your ideas - crazy as well as normal!!!

[Merged Topic]

I know it was mentioned earlier by a number of members that for our next meet we cruise to Jebal Hafeet for the day :)

So, just to get the topic started / rolling, please post if you would like to attend, and maybe some suggestions ... our Abu Dhabi/Al Ain members i am sure can point us in the right direction as to where we can eat, stop to talk etc etc... (if not on Jebal Hafeet itself!).

I propose January 4th. Its the first Friday after the new year and im sure we will all have lots to talk about.

I suggest we meet at around 2:00pm at Outlet Mall that is already on the way to Al Ain (on the Dubai -AlAin Rd).

Once the date/timing is confirmed, we will start a list of who can definitly come. :)

Eid Mubarak, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all members :)

Sounds good! Earlier would be better to avoid being noticed right away. Al Ain is a very small town and word travels very fast.

I will meet you guys at the entrance to Al Ain to guide you in, so we avoid the roundabout maze. I'll send exact location by PM only to registered participants.

I need to ask some questions, as I've never hosted a uaeboost meet.

1. Do you guys ever do any driving-based activities at meets? At other clubs I've worked with I organized large-scale events that included driving skill tests, such as the Extreme Duning Challenge, the Dubai4x4 MudFest, the Dubai4x4 Vehicle King of the Desert Challenge, etc. but these were all off-road, so it was easy to stay away from watchful eyes. Do you guys strictly park and meet or do you also go for a little drive to stretch your legs a bit before/after a meet? (I'm just asking sincerely and openly, as a newbie - I am well aware of road safety issues, but there's plenty of good non-residential roads. I am also aware and can assure you that Al Ain police will stomp on any reckless driver, especially a group with outside license plates, really really hard).

2. Are you guys OK with spending a little cash for food? We can do a local meal for AED 30 sitting on stools, or AED 120 for 5* hotel buffet on top of the mountain, or bring picnic food from home. Or a BBQ in the sand dunes, close by tarmac.

3. Do you guys ever do any kind of non-competitive awards at meets, like voting for Best At Meet, or Best Japanese, or Worst Paint, etc.?

4. Do you guys like to do a show cruise through the downtown area, nice and slowly, and attracting attention; or do you prefer to stay invisible and try not to get noticed?

5. Do you guys ask participants to sign a disclaimer saying they accept that the club and organizers and anybody else accepts absolutely no responsibility for their actions?

6. What other questions should I be asking? :D

1. No we dont. As you stated, its against the Law. Ive tried before, thought we could all meet at Global village and setup something in the parking lot (large empty and no one around)... but its still illegal and if caught, things can turn ugly real fast :(

2. I wanted to suggest it, but wasnt sure of the amount. Honestly, although some members could afford it, 120AED is a bit steep especially since alot of members are students. I think its fair to assume 15-30AED. However, i am sure we could all do showarma or something....;)
I like BBq in sand dunes - each person chip in 15-20AED (depending on how many ppl) and im sure we could do it.

3. Nope, never been done - but nice idea! I just dont want anyone becoming offended either, so maybe this needs to be discussed a bit more. It is an idea for future meets. (Y)

4.Show cruise is ok. Depends on what all members want. :)

5. I think this is understood... Like the guy who tried to showoff at the meet in May and smashed into the Bus ... lol... he ended the meet for everyone cause pople were scared of cops....

Prossett, usually we meet in a parking lot and talk alot. However, i would like to change this and go for cruises (like this one) and meet for dinners etc etc. This meet itself is a first for UB but hopefully not the last :)

Judging from the past we could have 5 ppl show or a 100. Just depends......

i think this meet could be very creative and fun if done right!!!

there should be some proper mutual understanding between the members that will attend the meet. for example "no stunt driving and crashing into buses"..the community doesnt have to sacrifice its meet bcoz of someone else's carelessness!!...

and i think 15-30aed wont be much for any of the guys/girls that want to attend the meet!!

remember if this meet goes through smooth then UB can be looking at more coverage and more people joining the board...for example in the cruise you have planned out accord, if ppl that are driving by see a hole bunch of nice cars driving around together in a group then they might be intersted to join the meet as well!!..and then maybe the club!!!...SO EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A UAEBOOST STICKER... or we can just put prossett in the front and let him drive with his bonnet open 8) hehehehe ....

remember boosters , this forums reputation is in ur hands!!!

anyways you guys have a good meet and i hope i will be able to fly over to dubai to see all of you and your cars, since il be in qatar for the holidays during that time :) ...have a good one guys!!

Never tried... I'm not sure what all procedures are involved.. We'd rather do some more meets before we try to make it official (if it's really possible and fairly inexpensive to do.)

OK, thanks for the answers guys - that helps shape it.

So, decided:

1. strictly drive obeying all road rules, park at destination and chiiiiiill out.

2. no responsibility taken by club or organizers.

3. good and cheap food at local restaurant.

4. every car should carry a uaeboost sticker, even if only for the day.

under discussion:

1. awards and prizes - some concern about how winners are chosen. What if all participants vote? That way it's not one small group of people deciding, it's everybody. We just hand out the list of categories, and during the meet each individual jots down the license number of the car they feel tops that category. I'll volunteer some nice simple prizes.

2. let's find out for future events exactly what is required for an "official" meet - maybe it's really simple and costs nothing. I suppose it's in the authorities' interest to have meets acknowledged so it's not a surprise, and I think they would actually support us asking through proper channels. They know that if "approval" is not granted it's going to happen underground anyways, so it's better they make it easy for clubs to meet properly and legally.

3. What else? Ah, photos! Yes, could the people with cameras please come equipped so we can collect together our best photos for the website.

4. What else else? Air-ticket for Tamu? :D

I agree that it should be a decent & responsible cruising trip without stunts
or any bad behavior , what about the mercury hotel there ??
I've been to jabal hafeet only for one time & sure it's a nice place , I think
the top restaurants are good-priced ones , & mercury hotel is also a nice
place ( need a debate here , I guess )
about the date I hope it won't be too close , may I suggest 14th or 21st Jan as it will
be friday ( we need more suggestions for the date to suite the most of us ).

Yes, indeed Sparky was ready to jump at the Jebel Hafeet idea, he said he had never been there... :(

Le Mercure Hotel is in fact on top of the mountain, with beautiful views, outdoors sheesha parlour, swimming pools with slides (too cold, guys, forget it!) and BBQ buffet on the weekends. It's five stars.

I would not think they go down less than AED 120 per person even for a group rate, but the value would be excellent for taste, location and setting. However, as someone pointed out, many members are students and would rather blow 120 on petrol than food.

The other possibility for food is a traditional Yemeni place that serves an entire meal for under 30 - including soup, salad, veggie dish, fish or mutton (cooked in a BBQ pit!) and spicy sauce. It's delicious, filling and excellent value - but we'd be sitting on plastic chairs. It's also not on top of the mountain, but downtown.

There are of course other options, even a quick shwarma on the go, if need be.

I've contacted a friend who says it's no big deal to get official approval from authorities, since the Harley boyz always do that for their Jebel Hafeet runs. Apparently, what happens is they assign 2-3 patrol cars to accompany the motorcade. LOOOL

While this could be a cool idea to have the cops actually escort us around, and would definitely help make sure everyone behaves :D , I think we need to talk about this angle more before making any serious enquiries.

If we ask and then are refused, we'll definitely have to go underground; and if we ask and are approved, then we definitely will be very visible and under control...

I may be host, but I follow the club's lead - the membership needs to decide.

I totally agree about police escort if they approve , at least we will be safe from annoying
people that come & do scramble & burnouts then run away making problems for
us with police .
but if they don't approve & stay on alert waiting for us then . hmmmm
prosett u are talking too much about food u make me damn hungry
