hold on guys - lets not jump the gun.

At the moment we have 3-4 people who have chimed in on the discussion.

However, maybe b4 we ask for an escort we should clarify how many members will attend. If it turns out that we are under 10 cars, im not sure if the police will even care.

How about just informing the police so that they are aware? Is there such a procedure. I mean, an escort for a few cars wont be necessary.

If anyone goes parading their skills (or lack of), they act on their own and are apart from the club..... Its likely that if someone goes stunt crazy they will get pulled over, not the entire club.

Stone-head, yes lets discuss the date! I just made a suggestion but we will definitely be looking at what date is best for everyone

We must have the date and times confirmed before putting up an attendance list... Again, we need suggestions guys. I'm putting it all on you guys since its our first drive and we want it to be very convenient for all of us.

Another approach if there's not a large number of interested members, would be to forget about the traditional "meet" idea with lots of parked cars (which is fun!) and instead get a small group of members and see it as a "drive".

In other words, if we had 5-6 members, I'd take you guys all over Al Ain's best driving roads, and forget the parking lot.

There's some very nice portions of road and in a small group we pretty much will stay invisible. We can time ourselves up Jebel Hafeet, one at a time. And basically cover the nice driving spots in this area, with a nice 30 Dirham dinner and plenty of stops to chat, and can show you an awesome road back with no radars no intersections until you meet the three-lane Dubai highway part.

As I see it: small tight group = more driving; large group = more parking.

Both are fun, it depends on numbers.

EDIT: Or, maybe, we can do a small-group Drive first, and then use that to prepare for a large-group Meet...

Who are 5 memebrs who would join me for a guided day's drive around Al Ain's best spots? No crazies, please, but I will throw in some thrills, within reasonable limits and carefully controlled.

Don't worry about your Civic, bud - besides the fact it's an awesome car, we most certainly will not be doing anything stupid - or I'm the first to leave.

I'm thinking a little exploration of nice roads, a little driving skill development, simply for fun, never any head-to-head, never clearly illegal, always within driver's limits, always within car's limits, always with no other traffic, each at their own pace, always non-competitive.

Rental's fine, man, don't worry - there's no need for a super-modified racer to go driving with your buddies!

It's open-window weather anyways: we'll have a good view up the mountain, if it's morning we can see how close a rental comes to matching the 8.5-minute Edmund's Mini record, have a nice cup of coffee up at the 5* coffeeshop at Le Mercure (my treat for a small group, up to 5 people), glide back down again, check out a couple of nice road segments, cruise through the oasis, have a good meal of Yemeni Mendi, check out an abandoned parking lot and see how that rental slides, then cruise a bit more, maybe hit a hill-top sheesha place to feel what winter in Canada feels like (jk, but it sure feels the same if you didn't bring a jacket!) then I'll show you the secondary road back through the desert with no radars so you can check out its top speed...

Note I'm not talking about the uaeboost meet; I'm talking about a small group cruise.

Its Been a long time since i had been to any meets...
First of all let me start by saying that I am married...
It all happened last month...

Last min planning sux... I couldnt do any invites. sorry guys.

Now regarding the meet.
Are the dates fixed?

I want to be there, anybody bringing their girfriends?

Going to the cops would be a terrible idea. Trust me.
I spend lot of time with these people.

Congrats, Neo - I've been married 20 years (to the same woman!) and it's perhaps the best thing I've ever done - except a really perfectly accurate figure 8 on dry sebkha...

Let's be clear about two different things:

1. Official Meet - no driving, only park and chat. Well, OK, you have to drive to get there, and up the mountain, but what I mean is absolutely no illegal manouver - Al Ain is a small town and everybody has eyes and a mobile and a relative who works in the Police.

Time and date up to the membership.

2. Un-official small group drive. This one will be a weekend morning, to maintain stealth, for true driving lovers, will include some nice driving roads and a few (totally sane) trials. I repeat - totally sane. I don't do stupid (anymore... old age, you see...

)

i cant really confirm until i know the Date on when its gonna happen.
