I have been doing some digging up and thought I would share this information with you. This table below gives you a recommendation of rim widths for tread widths. These are recommendation for street tires only ie; low profile or medium profile not sand or mud tires. These might not be always correct because it is as per research that I have done over the internet.

Treadwidth(mm)-Least Rim Width(Inches)-Recommended Rim W(Inches)-Highest Rim W(Inches)

195 - 5.5 - 6.0 - 7.0
205 - 7.0 - 7.5 - 8.0
215 - 7.0 - 7.5 - 8.5
225 - 7.0 - 7.5 - 8.5
235 - 8.0 - 8.5 - 9.5
245 - 8.0 - 8.5 - 9.5
255 - 8.5 - 9.0 - 10.0
265 - 9.0 - 9.5 - 10.0
275 - 9.0 - 9.5 - 10.0
285 - 9.5 - 10.0 -10.5
295 - 10.0 - 10.5 - 11.5
305 - 10.5 - 11.0 - 11.5
315 - 10.5 - 11.0 - 11.5
325 - 11.0 - 11.5 - 12.0
335 - 11.5 - 12.0 - 12.5
345 - 11.5 - 12.0 - 12.5

I hope this helps.

Thanks all!

Yes you were! However these are recommended and can be slightly altered which is what I am going to do. It has been said in forums all over that 255 / 40 would be just about right on an 8 inch rim. So I guess i just might scrape through.

scrapping also depends on offsets not the width that much.....but IMO when you go for wider tires then recommended size then they look awkward

The offsets on the rims allow fir wide tires to clear struts and not stick out. I think I should be safe. I will get my car back end of this week. The rims are being powder coated and I should have pics by Saturday.

sorry you are wrong....offset is the one thing which make the wheel come out or stick in from the hub. more + wheels goes in less + it will stick out. if you have +25 offset and your 255 is flush it will go in if the offset is +35 or vice versa.

If you are talking about stock wheels you should be ok as usually every stock wheel in all Japs has a space of 15-20mm

When I said stick out, I meant stick out past the fender. It is +30 offset which means it has enough offset to let wider tires clear the struts but not too much which would make it stick out past the fender. It sits perfectly flush or so I think. I might need lowering springs to complete the look I am going for. Does this make sense now?

I meant the same...and guess everyone takes the same meaning of stick out :)

what I was saying if according to you +30 is flush you can go for wider tires and if it will rub then with +35 offset it should be ok.

I didnt get if you are talking about stock wheels or after market? as in stock there is always room for 10-15 and when you will lower it with slightly negative camber things should be ok....assuming we are talking about stock wheels

Slightly different actually! Sticking out may mean,
1. Sticking out from the stock offset but not past the fender. That is within the 15mm which you have between the stock wheels and the fender.
2. Then there is sticking out like we see on many 4wd which is past the fender.
I was meaning the 1st one

I have already bought the wheels which are +30mm offset, I dont think i am in a position to change the wheels if I wanted wider tires (which i really do not want more than 255 that is). The stock tires are 245 tread.

My stock offsets are +45 (or so i believe) and the offsets of the wheels I am going to put on are +30. This lets it sit perfectly flush as (like you have rightly pointed out) there is a 15mm space.

I will definitely be getting some lowering done. I might need ur help doc.

The truth is I feel there might be a problem and i cant out my mind to rest without actually getting the wheels on. I am being Devils advocate and actually debating with myself. Will let you guys know how this turns out.

Well my car is currently being serviced and scratches are being removed (Some idiot scratched it during the rain. long story). The car has stock wheels on it now. But I cant take any pics because not with me.

The "new" wheels are being powder coated, so cant take pics of that

The tires are sitting at Yellow hat waiting for the car and wheels. So cant take pictures of them either.

Now I could always take some pictures off the internet to clearly explain what I mean. But thats too much work and I feel lazy. :)

Hehe, I was referring to the last option of course! I'm sure there are guides somewhere online.
