Steering Vibes
Moderator:Neo
Hi,
Car - Honda Civic 2000 model.
Mileage - 225k
I recently picked her up. Originally it had the 13inch orginal rims..the owner had given me a set of alloys 14 inch which i swapped yesterday.
Just this afternoon on way to work after lunch - emirates road @ 100 - 120km/hr(speedo) i could feel vibes on the steerings(pretty heavy) which previously did not exist. I did take my hands off for a sec or two..could see the steering vibe..
Any sugg on the cause..Tyres are used one would have a few miles life left in em.
??
Thanks
William

Check the tires btw... i had my balancing done sometime ago but ruined everything when i braked real hard and rubbed off the surface of the tires while skidding... Later on when i do 110+ there is a small vibration in the tires cuz they nolonger have even treads..

I have a feeling its due to a gap between the hub centric ring and the rim center. What you would need to do is fabricate washers of appropriate thickness, basically just to fill the gap.
Compare the sizes with a pair or vernier calipers. You can also compare one rim each from both your sets to your stock spare wheel and to each other.
Could also be due to bends/damages (minor and usually invisible to the naked eye) to the rims.

I totally agree with Rashood. It might be because they are not stock rims and always have a space where you need proper washers to fill the gap and finally do balancing. there is nothing to be worried because this problem is quite normal.
