balloon tires for fj cruiser
Moderator:Neo
dear all,
i would like to have some advice on changing balloon tires for my fj 2010, is it good and safe to have balloon tires?
i would also like to have some suggestion for on and off road tires, which is the good one to use on both
thanks in advance

Balloon Tyres ( Tissamiya) are not very safe like other all terrain tyres. They lack grip especially due to its Line cutting. If you can get used to its grips then driving one is totally fine
Comparing it with desert , these are the best...they can help to take the vehicle to extreme heights(depends on the driver too ) just like Paddle tyres.
One issue with balloon tyres are while u drive around 120-140 it vibrates..but as far as u get a neat set of tyres ...balanced and all those , i guess no issues !!

I think the worst part with balloon tires is warming them up every morning or after a long duration of the car being idle. The car vibrates so much till they are warm...and this causes your alignment to go out. You will find yourself doing alignments and wheel balancing every two months!!....
Other then that it's chill, just try to brake a little earlier and not try to turn to drastically otherwise you will find yourself on two wheels or doing a burnout!!.....
Lastly when the tire is full hot...YOU HAVE ZERO GRIP!!...Qatar is most likely implementing a ban on Balloon tires after eid or maybe even during Ramadan. I won't be surprised if the other GCC countries will follow.

Indeed, they do look cool and are bloody expensive..approx 850 aed per tire....Matt wrote:so....
- When they are cold, they vibrate
- When they are hot, you have no grip
- They can mess up your alignment
- move the steering wheel to fast and you crash
BUT
They look cool
@Accord - I had no clue Kuwait already banned them...Well then I guess its going to be for sure in Qatar then!!

Its a nice cool factor, but believe me its really not worth it unless its a strictly 95% offroad vehicle.
As mentioned above ATS Tyres are pretty all round tyres, many other options available that are good both on and offroad. Been offroading for like a few years now, i've never touched a baloon tyre
