i believe there's some truth to that. it's best to stick to the maximum size the dealer has... unless you have a nice powerful car that can handle the bulk of the rims... plus also clearance between the tire and the upper-wall is an issue.

My car came with 16s, when I replaced it with 17s I definitely felt a loss in acceleration power, and the steering kinda got heavier.

I don’t think they are really *BAD* .. otherwise BMW7 series and Audi A8 wouldn’t have them..

Big rims usually increase handling, by making your car stiffer.. Accelerating might be less though.. Because of the stiffness you’ll have less contact with the road.

(The firmer your tires are, the less contact with the road.. less traction – but also less resistance if there’s no force onto that wheel). For example, fwd dragsters.. take small rims up front, with a HUGE patch of rubber around it.. and only inflated till 10 or 20 PSI.. Rear wheels are usually bone-hard to get rid of drag.

And usually they are a bit heavier (unless you go for the really light ones)…

But imho, they look good.. I went from 16 -> 18 .. And I’m loving it.

That's a silly thing actually.. I bet his car dealership said that...

It makes sense that way, that if something is modified, and something completely different goes wrong.. they blame the modification.

When I had my car for a while and I change wheels (18’s) , my battery died on a certain morning.. the car was only 3 months old (Hyundai quality eh.. ) and I brought it in, since it was in warranty.. they blamed my “wheels”.. because they turn around less than smaller wheels and therefore my alternator doesn’t charge as much as it should..

I took the sales guy outside, showed him that an alternator is connected to the crank, not to the wheels..

Moronic country though

Big rims definitely a crowd puller!!!
Buy a $!tty car and put in big rims wit lotsa chrome.
Gangsta look and pimped up ride!!! Instant graduation!
MAybe it mite look terrible, but it will definitely turns heads
(Wondering wat the heck is that)

Nice stuff mike... I wud hav kicked the guy who wud have tried explaining the same to me.

Big rims are fine if u make sure the overall diameter of the RIM + Tire is equal to the OEM.

A bit bigger than OEM is fine to as long as it doesnt touchs or rubs anywhere else. And remember once the diameter size goes over/ below the OEM, the speedo reading, the load on the engine, the final drive ratio, the fuel efficiency changes...

In UAE where the roads are good,

Big rims wit low profile tires wud give u, a sporty ride, accurate and precise streeing, good handling and a beautiful ride.

Downside, Lets say ur in India

The ride would be hard, as the tire profile lowers u will feel ur riding on a car witout suspension.
And hit a pothole or a bump at speed, pieces of ur rim comes out, chips off or even bends in some case.

Period!

i think a person should stick to a desent size of rims as i c ppl put in real huge rims i was told that cozs alot of load on ur axle n it might damage it
well duint no if this theory is true or not
