Hello guys!

I am facing unusal tyre wear out problem with our Prado. We changed front two tyre back in 2005 and didnt even run 20k km but started wearing out and car start to vibrates after 60 km/h and get worse after 100 km/h. I visited one of my trusted tyre shop and he said the reason is low tyre preassure, car manual say 35 psi but he said at leat 40 psi should have been there. Now after pushing 40 psi vibration level went down but still there.

Some said to replace Dunlop Grantrek (as it come standerd with Prado) with other brands like Yokohama Geolander, Bridgestone Duler, BF Goodrich (dont remember model) as these tyre perform better then Dunlop.

What 4x4 owners suggest?

Thanks

well i had the same problem but i changed me tire got a 2006 mod bridgestone well i only got 2 for the front tires this week i'm going to change the rear tires also but i think the problem is that you'r tires are not balanced or they are old ( but u said the tires are 2005 modle ) well just try to go to a tires shop and see or u can do 1 thing well am not sure about this just see if the rims are in good shape.
but for me the problem went when i changed the tires and got a new 1s well if u'r trying to buy a tire just check with the shop and tell them about you'r problem

good luck man !!

@ Accord98
You mean allignement, done when new tires installed
No rotation at 10k km due to age difference of front set and rear.
Offroad 2 out 100%

@AZ_ME
Ya tyres are of 2005 but didnt even run 20k km, stock rims no problem yet as almost no off roading. Mine is part time 4wd.

Thanks and good luck gtting new tires. However how much is Bridgestone costing?

--
However after 40 psi tires cosing less vibration, But I am planning to change all 4 tires.

So what tires I should go for? one Prado owner on web said to have Yokohama and performing better then Dunlop. What do you guys say, may be BF?

i dont no about tires but there are some things you try out

1st thing vibration can be the cause of low pressure in the tire...if you are driving on low pressure your tires wear will definatly degrade (trust me on that)...best thing to do is go and get your tires aligned. that means let them put the magnets. after that take it for a another alignment (i forgot what its called) but basically they lift your car up and make sure all the tires are str8.they adjust the steering and stuff... and if after that there is still problems then change the tires. i dont think there is a need to change your tires IF you have only run 20k on them..they are still brand new...but remember if the car has bin just lying there for a while and every now and then the car gets used then the tire could get outa shape!!....check it out and lemme no how it goes!!!

It is probably alignment man.. Your wheel are not all facing the front. If you have higher PSI, you 'touch the road' less.. and hence less shaking.

Have it properly aligned, should cost you around 200 dhs maximum.

Thanks Tamu & Mikeh for suggestion.

But tyre specialist said the tyre alreday badly wornt out due to low tyre preassure and I must have change as soon as possible.

As I will change all 4 together, hope there wont be any problem as is now, because current front set of 2005 and rear set of 2002 :$ original set when the car was bought, we didnt care much as Prado doesnt run as Sunny. There we made mistake, no use of crying now.

However Prado web community suggested not to go for Dunlop again, so what do you guys say, which brand I should go for. please share your experience.

Thanks all

hey masabgt ....
got ur cardomain message n i saw ur sunny as well as ur prado at villa "7" ... not tht im stalking u but i pass by there sometimes to drop of a frnd as thts the route.

talking about ur tires, iv used alot of tires.tried different ones on my patrol.do u go to the desert alot ? if u do - then close ur eyes n pic up the Shaheen sumitomo, those tires r perfect for OFF road and ON road. BUT the only prob with those is wet road.u might wanna stay on dry land when it rains. those tires dont relly do good on WET.
if u use the car on just road, go n try out the Michelin LTX.their real good tires.perfect for the road, n good for the desert as well.
the yokohama geolander tires r studded right ? so i dont know how it would do on road, but i think it would b Shitty.
try out those 2 tires i mentioned. but before u put any- make sure its alligned n blanced Well with the car.have to re-check if they really did it, as most of the tire boyz r Lazy ..

@ Eleanor

Hmm villa 7!, come to our house somtime.

I got your point, I do not go offroad very often, its 2.7L inline 4 :S , it will get STUCK. still I do go but avoid up hill drive condition

However, Michelin LTX cost double than Bridgestone, I called up Michelin delear Al Rostomani, quoted 800 Dhs each. :| Bridgestion costs almost half 455 Dhs.

Come on, mine is not Porsche Caynee, its Prado has not got much budget for shoes. Thanks for idea, but give me more option :D

Thanks again

lol masabgt ...
dude u say prado aint tht good in the desert just cauz its a 2.7 ... but u must put it to the test.tht car is impressive in the desert.
well michelin ltx r used by many people.if u want to go for a tire low of price, then id say try the shaheen sumitomo. its cheaper than the bridgestone as well...
but i think after a while every bridgestone tire would make noise or screw up.
talking about a low car with expensive shoes, thts wht seperates u from the other boys with the same car n most of all sends messages to those Farts sitting in second hand cayenne's .... which r shitty machines. lol .....
check the shaheen sumitomo.... might like it..... its good on and Off road, except wet surfaces.
