Open the pic in ms-paint and save it in another format. Try the different types of formats and see which one decreases the size significantly. If that doesn't work try decreasing the resolution....if that doesn't work then skrew it and put something else lol :P

The maximum size the avatar can be is 140x140 and less than 400kb... I'm sure it wouldn't be 400kb if you resized it properly (and in JPG/GIF) and also make sure its not bigger than 140x140.

The quality is bound to fall. Make sure you have the right resolution.
Try Adobe Imageready for modifying gif images.

Current Image : Maximum dimensions; width: 140 pixels, height: 140 pixels, file size: 48.97 KiB.

Error : The avatar’s filesize must be between 0 and 48 KiB.

iv cropped the image quite a bit, if i crop anymore there woudnt be any point to put it up .....
no hurry, but if u can think of something would b great.thnx sam

Use Photoshop to resize/crop photos, if you're doing it already, try saving it in .PNG format from the Save for Web option in Photoshop.
