Are American cars worth owning here in UAE?

I have a couple of favorite American cars namely the Chevrolet Cruze, the Ford Taurus and the Ford Focus.
What I want to know is what is it like to own one here? I hear spare parts are expensive and is it true that the maintenance cost is twice that of Japanese cars?

I hear that you have to take American cars for service every 10000KM instead of 5000KM. And that's why the price of servicing is twice that of Japanese cars. :(

Most new American cars are being sold with Warranty + Servicing + Insurance.
Focus and Taurus should give you this. Ford is good at throwing in all inclusive packages.

I think the newer american cars are great and manufacturers are really working hard to bring up their names.

Those days US cars used to over heat and fall into peices after warranty expires ... but i think its different now, most of them are offering 5 year drive train warranty hence i think they're built to last now.

Try to go for something slightly newer to avoid headaches.

Agree with Accord. Ford has really good offers these days, such as free servicing, and extended warranties. If you're in a tight budget, I'd suggest a Ford and then sell it off before the warranty period ends to avoid a significant depreciation hit.

Hmmm...
Do the American dealers really require you to bring the car for service every 10000KM? What if you bring the car for service at every 5000KM? Will they entertain you or will they tell you to go home and come back until it reaches 10000KM?

They might so it ... but then ur warranty will actually get over in half the time ... for instance if u have 100k servicing free .. at the intervals of 10k ... n if u wud like to give u car for servicing at 5k then sure ... but they will service ur car till only 50k ... it wud b completely senseless to do the above ...but then ur call ...

this is not true for every American car, but depends on the oil which is recommended and used. Infiniti also reckons 10k service. Another reason is in US hardly anyone go for servicing 5k km as they go for anything from 4000 to 7000 miles.

Coming to your point if the service is not suggested for 5k then why you will go there and why they should or anyone else would do it  better to change it outside and take the car at dealership every 10k

But skipping a dealer service voids warranty. At least @ Nissan.

Ask the service advisor/dealer, not me! I've never owned an American car, we're a Nissan family.
