The Flash Red FT-86 Concept is inspired by the Corolla based AE86 sports coupe from the 1980s. The FT-86 is a rear wheel drive sports concept powered by a 2.0 Liter, four cylinder gasoline burning engine supplied by Subaru. In its non boosted form, the flat four make a maximum output of 150 HP, but the automaker is toying around with the idea of a more powerful super charged version depending on consumer demands, but for now we will have to settle for a simple boxer engine connected to a 6 speed manual transmission and equipped with ADVICS brakes.

Although the car has been named FT-86, Toyota is in the process of registering the name Supra back to their ownership, after they lost it in 2006.

Enjoy (Y)

n00b question: How does Honda manage 200 BHP out of a 2.0 liter engine, and Toyota can only manage 150?

Its such a S3X on Wheels, i think ill wait for the day i starts selling in the market... & i hope this marks a new era of getting those Japanese out of their current boring mentality and back to building proper sport compacts... They say its gonna be like hte AE86 a budget car and i really hope it does cuz were missing a gap for cheap RWD..

The FT-86 is NOT the new Supra, its a homage to the AE86.
The Supra name patent was renewed by Toyota because they might build a turbocharged premium sports coupe. Let's just hope they don't go the Honda route and make a phail-a55 hybrid sports car.

@ Ozi

Honda makes high-revving engines that are not really boost friendly and power is mostly available at the top of the rpm band.
As for this unit in the Toyota, it'll be the non-boosted version of a force induced engine (a la 4B11, makes around 280 in the EVO and around 150 in the Lancer GT)

Whatever makes you happy
And anyways, there might be a supercharged version of this.
And it will only be a 6 speed manual model, till further notice.

And Toyota has less than 3 years to release a new Supra. If the Nissan GT-R is almost as amazing as the original Godzilla, why haven't they answered with a proper Supra successor? :(

Now all we need is one of those and a new NSX successor and we have ourselves a reunion.

I wonder if Toyota's answer/alternative to the GT-R is in the Lexus 'supercar' they recently released?

NSX from Honda? -- ohhh... would be nice, but I don't think they'll do it. I'm not sure the world ever saw the NSX as a success.

In the meantime, I'm still in love with the FD2 (Type R - Jap Spec).

Sometime si feel the recession is a good thing for the performance dept. for auto makers... They start to be smart and creative to manage to squeeze something on a tight budget... I hope this will mark a new era for budget sport compact cars that we have missed in this decade... I mean which avg. individual in many of the would's countries would look to buy an expensive sports car nowadays? they'd need something cheap, practical and engaging to drive... Got what im trying to say here?
