Coming back to the subject, there are some really nice E36 coupes on Japanese websites for sale. In the pictures they seem to be flawless, with very low mileage - an average 80,000kms. If their mileage is genuine - then there should not be any problems with the VANOS system :/

Its better to buy from the local market - but I doubt if the condition of the cars here will be as good as the ones available for sale in Japan

Not sure if you still haven't had any luck, but check out Eagle workshop in mussafah. They know everything about cars!!

I sent my 1996 BMW 7 series there for major repairs and maintenance and they did an awesome job getting it running like brand new again
