Buy a book on engines :)

Can your question be a little bit more vague?

Shukran, shukran.. yet I'm not a technical advisor.. just a car nut.

Hawk, you're question is vague. How do you define different engines? Different models? Simple: inhale, push, boom, exhale.. RB26, or a LS2.. do those things.

If you are talking about type of engines.. you have rotaries (and a few others/prototypes, who never really made it into production), which work differently.

If you are talking about aspiration, you have naturally aspirated engines, and forced induction. Forced induction is usually with a super charger, or a turbo charger. The best book on this is "Maximum boost" by corky bell. If you're planning of turbo charging a N/A engine.. this is your manual.

So.. tell me again, what do you mean by different engines?

Usually people go for a bore & stroke kit.

Bore is the diameter of the cylinder/piston. If it's diameter is bigger, then you have an increase of displacement. See it as "scraping" the walls of the cylinder, making the hole a big bigger.

Stroke is the length that the piston is pushed up or down.. If the cylinder goes lower (towards BDC), you have more "volume" in your cylinder. BY changing rods and such..

This is a difficult and costy thing. It's basically taking the engine apart. :D

there is bore and stroke.. usually means pistons are bigger, crankshaft and some internals.. . my mates r32 gtst has a rb25det.. is now 2.8 L. ITS REALLY EXPENSIVE and it should be one of the last mods u should be looking at

but yeh.. u can also change head/block.. depends how interchangeable the car's engine is with other similar cars..... a common change in displacement here is with skylines.. usually rb25 or (less commonly)rb26 head on a rb30 block (the old 3L engine that came in old commodores and the r31 skylines).. easy 600hp with the right gear.. the car basically becomes 3L.

yup. our fastest skylines all run rb30's

reece mcgreggons 7second skyline runs a rb26/rb30 (ofcourse the head bored out ... to 2.9 i think it was).. fastest track car runs a rb30 setup

we have our fastest GTS4 skyline runs a 10.2second quater mile. Has a rb25(head)/rb30(block) motor. 600hp and This car has STANDARD INTERNALS

i thought about gettin an rb30 setup done.. it woulda cost me 4500$ (around 11,000dhs) alll rebuilt and ready to be popped in.. even had a 4WD sump.. if i had the money at the time HELL YES.. but oh well im a poor assed student :(
