Hey guys,
Just out of curiosity, is it possible to switch a stock 323i engine with a M3 one, without changing other stuff, like i guess gear and all.
Just a thought. Not planning to do it anytime soon but just wanted to know if it is possible.
Thanks guys.
Cheers!
323i to M3?

I cant speak for a BMW in specific, but I dont think so.
In a dodge for example, it is possible to switch out a stock 5.7 liter for a stock 6.1. But the 2 cars have the same tranny (with different gears, yes)
In this case i'd say no. But only because I think your stock tranny would start to slip. It wont be able to take that jump in power.
Also, your drive shafts, and more importantly, half shafts, would end up snapping at some point (common problem with the upgraded SRT8s)
Also, your ECU would be pointless. You'd need a new one obviously, or if BMW ECUs can be reflashed, you'd need to do that. And I'd assume alot of tuning if you go that route.

You got it.
Though I once met a guy who had retrofitted a 70's beetle with an STi's motor/tranny/drive train, so it is technically possible. Everything is technically possible.

Hi,
Ill have to agree with the other user here too...........
first of all the tranny housing dont match, diffrent spline shaft pattern.........and about the running , well i dont this thats a problem..........if it is geared lower, then the car will be ok if it has a 6 spd! if its got a 5 spd, then you can swap the rear diff, or ring and pinnion to a 3:45, or 3 :64..and it will be fine!
I dont think it a real big problem...........
because in a swap that we do out here in europe, we swap engine , tranny , and ecu, with wiring..........another problem you can run into is immo? which we can dissable anyway...........
and last a diff.........
and your off!
thats it..............
Hope this info helps too..............
