Directional tires mean that they will work only in one direction. this means you get a different tread pattern for the lefts vs right. you cannot swap the left side tire with your right side tire.

It is unfortunate because you get better life out of tires if you rotate them which I am unable to do. this means I am buying a new set of tires earlier than if i would have had been able to rotate tires. I have this problem in the IS.
