Make my car the guinea pig! I will drop it to you for as long as you want. I can also supply you original dissembled parts to make moulds etc. Let me know then :)

My car will be sporting your company sticker as a sponsor then.

Alternatively, I also have a vintage pristine condition 1979 280zx Turbo if you would like to make panels for that. Scores of Maxima's, Nissan Patrols, etc...

That would actually be wonderful  I would love to work on a project car and see the outcome of it.
once I have everything ready, I know who to turn to

*BUMP*!!! Kaboom!

this has been a while  I have some news....
as some folks know, I took an interest in CF materials & wish to make something cool out of it but I'm a total n00b in this field and I don't want to aim just for form, I want function!

As an engineer, I decided to do some research and subject myself to boat load of reading and figuring out certain principles that cannot be applied to multilayer composites compared to aluminum or steel structures...

I also turned to building CAD models to simulate manufacture and bill of materials to better understand how much is too much! carbon fiber ain't cheap dawg (if anyone can guess what car it is... wins a digestive biscuit!)

Image

I built some sample pieces for stress tests, so far with the types of weaves I got and directional patterning; some where catastrophic failures given I cured them wrong, but after improvements on temperature and pressure, some of the samples exceeded my expectations and fare better than aluminum for the same weight... it frickin light yo!!

here is a very sexy plain weave 3K 5.7ounce carbon fiber cloth.... I should make a kandoora out of one

Image

A much heavier 6K 11 ounce 2x1 plain weave for some aesthetics...

Image

a fabulous satin weaved fiber glass inlay to give further depth to the fiber sheet.

SIDE NOTE: I am still in the R&D phase, there are several things I need to iron out, also I'm keeping my expense at the minimum... my

Goals:
- understand and develop proper coatings for final layer.
- Feasible alternatives... fiber glass moulds to be made in-house or not.
- 2 piece and 3 piece CF parts - how to go about building them
- Figure out what all list of parts I should and shouldn't make (market research)
- cheapest real CF option - wrapping parts in CF - for people who want form but don't care about function.
- Research on metal to composite bonding.
- Experiment & test and analyze aluminum in-lay CF sandwich (trade off studies)
- many more to come....

I later wish to have a fine UB gentleman to donate his car to go on a massive diet... :!:

 bump!

I think I got the hang of it. Here are two planks of cured CF through hot bonding.
1/4 inch and 1/10 inch.

Result: impossi-%#%$-able to bend or deflect. Its stiffness is approaching steel level but weighs lighther than aluminum for the same thickness.

I guess i am a bit too late on this topic... I wanted to start up same stuff but couldnt find any partner to start off with (coz i dont hav much idea on CF productions). So i started wrapping car business.
I've got all types of CF wraps from 3M to chinese material. Can be applied on interior & exterior aswell. Comes in multiple colors too. Anyone intrested can pm me for more details.
