My friend was driving his car without a license (he has one but he left it at home) and was stopped by the police. They slapped a 2000 AED fine and are taking his car to be impounded for 30 days.
Now he doesn't care about the fines but is there any way he can get out of the impound mess?

no , i dont think so
iv heard many times, even cop's personal cars have been put in there. really strict about this.
but iv also heard and done - paying 100 per day to minimize the days... this u can do. but only if tht guy on the counter is in a good mood.

The guy must have done something really wrong.
I was stopped at Warqa once and I didnt have license with me at that time (it was at home)
I was fined 200 dhs although I gave them my license number and they had it verified through wireless phone.

This was around an year back.

U can pay money if u dnt want to impound ur car......(For tht particular place whr the car will be parked impounded area) It depends on the police whr they impound ur car weather in police station or offcial impounded area...... In police station u have to pay 100 Dhs for a day (100x30=3000) where as Impounded area is 50 per day (30x50=1500)

ThankYou all for feedback. Well, I enquired about the fees and they are asking for 400 AED per day for 30 days. 400*30 = 12000 AED! Can you believe that?
I'm surprised that its different with everyone, like Aamir and adj911.

Man sorry to hear about that but thanks for the info!! This is so ridiculous!! I've never heard of anything like this, these cops are out of their heads... Back in Europe, they'd just check if you have a valid driver's license through their network, and just maybe fine you if you're unlucky... Incredible they have such idiotic rules here!!

damn!!! i feel for your friend. i dont think paying that is a good idea, you can buy another 2nd hand car with that sum. however, where is the car now?? police station or impounding area? maybe your friend can try going some other time, and speak to another cop and check out. if transportation is the problem for him, either borrow a friends car or maybe he can check out discount rentacar, dhs.29 for chev. aveo.
crossing my fingers and wishing him luck....
the rules and cops just s*** here, royally!!

:| Bullshit!!

Try inquiring from Bur Dubai traffic department near fourth interchange on SZR. They told me AED100/day back in January.

Apologies to all who were right about the 100 AED per day, I guess the police officer was drunk when he told my friend 400. I'll check for sure and let you all know.
