Source if the report "gulf news"

Police on Monday launched a week-long road safety awareness campaign against driving on the hard shoulder.
Dubbed as "Over-passing the Hard Shoulder& An Uncivilised Behaviour", the campaign, will run up to June 22 and will be targeting young drivers.
"We have launched this campaign after noticing an increase in traffic collisions resulting from violation of driving on the hard shoulder," said Lieutenant Colonel Arif Mohammad Bu Shagar, Director of Al Qusais Police Station.
Statistics show an increase in the number of violations with many resulting in collisions.
There were 12,450 violations involving driving on the hard shoulder in 2007 and 12,612 cases were logged in 2008.
"Collisions from these violations have resulted in serious injuries and even death. We had three fatalities last year and this year a pedestrian walking on the hard shoulder was run over and killed," said Bu Shagar.
Violators face a Dh600 fine and six black points on their driving license.
"The problem with this violation is that once a driver commits it everyone else follows them onto the hard shoulder,"

All the ub members are requested to be careful this week as RTA and Dubai Police are trying utmost to penalize every single violator. As i am always a victim, it also implies to me. ; - p

That's good to know but has there been any reduction in violation? I doubt!

Instead of going after people who do this (I do it alot) why dont they ticket the cooks who MUST drive 90 in the fast lane. THEY are the reason I have to wiz by on the shoulder. Mind you I NEVER am doing more than 140.

Seriously, Get your granny speed car out of the fast lane and many people will stop using the shoulders.

The illegal needs parking is now actually a 1,000 I believe, as per my report. I need to renew one car tomorrow and I have 6,400 in fines. Sigh.

I agree with ultrablue here,

I used to go to Knowledge village via shiekh Zayed road on my bike and would many a times find people in the fast lane at 80kmph while talking on the phone!

Some people seriously need some awarness about this issue.
