and oh. mx-5 has 1.6 variants also. and not a rotary. it uses the same engine platform with teh mazda 323's

how come you want an engine to generate 200+hp & consume
same amount of fuel as a 1.3 liter ( four stroke ) engine ???
the volumetric efficiency of rotary engines is better than Otto cycle
engines ( i.e four stroke engines ) , different designs with different
cycles means they shouldn't be compared as CC to CC
& how come you want a rotary engine withstand high boost using
standard apex seals ???
it's like using standard "weak" connecting rods & pistons , etc with a
20+ PSI boost in a four stroke engine , do u think it will survive
one more thing rotaries consume alot of oil because it's jetted to the
chambers through the intake ports , unlike the four strokes that
may have oil jets under the cylinders & different oil channels to
lubricate the journals

I read in Road & Track that people upgrade their rotary engines at the cost of durability. And when buying an RX7, having it taken to a rotary mechanic is a must.
By the way, does that car have twin turbo or single turbo?
Bit of an old post but i liked the Pics so why not answer some questions .
I have owned 2 Rx7's in the UK before moving to Dubai . 1 twin turbo 310bhp and a converted Single Turbo 420 BHP . Mine were registered as 1.3 litres . They do use more petrol than say a Micra 1.3 as it has 3 revolutions per cycle . (e.g 3 chambers per spin as appose to 1 chamber per piston)
As standard the 3rd Gen Rx7 (e.g. the one you see in the pics and rounded shape) comes as standard with Twin Sequential Turbo's .. first tubo comes in at 2.2 - 2.5k reves and the second at 4.5k rev's .... red line is at 8k revs.
The rotary engines are no weaker than a piston engine . As long as you look after it correctly . A rotary specialist is prefered when doign a re-build but you can do it yourself if you have some time and a big manual . At the end of the day there is only 1 real moving part !!! The engines are good for 80-100 thousand km's before a rebuild.
When i owned mine apart from normal wear and tear like any car i didnt have to repalce anythign major , i used it on tracks and daily commutes to work.
