OK, heard from Peevee and we'll "have 1 hour on the day to practice - believe me that is ample. Anything before that would be at the Kartdrome at Dhs 100 for 15 minutes during the normal operating hours."

So it seems we can practice on the day before the UB Shootout, and maybe formulate a little team strategy. :!:

No, punching the other drivers in the face on the turns is not allowed! :D Instead we'll have Sam shine a high-powered laser into their eyes on the straight!!!!!!!

Almost a week to go for the race! Sign up everybody!

I'm grateful to Peevee for this great offer to our club.

Lets just aim to get on the top, or beat those 'lesser known drivers' at the least. One hour is ample time to practice! You should be able to see the track with your eyes closed if you practice for that long!! LOL! :D

Wait for the invitations once all slots are full. (Y)

Yes, an hour will give us enough time - let's also share notes as a team.

We will automatically see our times for each lap, so we can see how we improve when we apply certain strategies.

Basically the entrance to the curve is crucial, as you see in F1 the correct line is where you gain seconds - you begin the approach from the opposite side, cut to the apex of the curve (the inside point) and then exit at the opposite side. That's to keep up the highest speed without sliding sideways (that's bad, even though it's fun!! :!: )

The second most important will be braking hard at the latest possible second and only on the straight - so we need to be on the opposite side of the curve, at the highest speed possible, before the curve, then brake full on when the kart is still straight, and then enter the curve line smoothly while accelerating again. No braking in the curve.

If it were easy and everybody could do that, we would all be F1 champions! It's not easy to be consistent.

I think we can smoke the media people (I've seen them drive and was not impressed - with the notable exception of His Excellency Zlatko, who if present I'm afraid will be very hard to match) - I think the VIPs could be tough if they are racing VIPs because they'll have lots of practice - but I think the toughest will be the "lesser known" club drivers, simply because they have track hours we'll never reach.

In any case, I talk about the competitive aspect just for fun, and because it is part of the sport - actually, I see it as part of the game, but I don't actually worry about how we place, I'm just happy to driiiiiive!!!!!! (Y) 8) :!:

I met a 10-yr-old kid called Tom who told me he holds the lap record of 1'04 - he was way cool, had been racing for 4 years... :| 8) (Y)

I saw him run some laps on his pro kart and I got to tell you only a 10-yr-old can be so fearless! On the straight he would tuck his chin down to get better aerodynamics... hope he's not one of the "lesser known" drivers!@!!!!

Kingkenny - try starting slow and building up fast each lap, instead of just ripping it full speed!!! :D
